Welcome back

Another school year is about to start and staff and pupils are excited about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

The new Red Class (Reception and Year 1) looks wonderful and together with the recently refurbished Rainbow Class (Nursery) provides a stimulating and spacious learning environment for pupils in Foundation Key Stage and lower Key Stage 1. Plans are in place to complete this department’s improvements with work on the playground and toilet area during the coming 12 months.

We welcome Miss Woodcock and Miss Amato to Blue Class and Mr Nelson has joined the staff team to work closely with Mr Cartwright supporting vulnerable pupils. Miss Heath is excited about teaching Purple Class in Miss Elliott’s absence and we wish Miss Elliott lots of luck and look forward to meeting the new baby when he or she arrives.

As always, enabling all pupils to achieve their full potential is the main focus of our planning and preparation for the new school year. The new School Improvement priorities will be on this site soon. The introduction 3 years ago of Reading Recovery led by Mrs Purewal has led to big improvements in pupils’ attainment in Reading and had a positive impact on progress and overall attainment in English, particularly in Key Stage 1. We now aim to introduce intervention support and programmes that will have a similar impact on attainment and progress in Mathematics. Pupils at Bridge Hall are confident using computers and develop good ICT skills however Ofsted noted that we could now utilise these skills to enhance learning across the whole curriculum. Therefore this will also be a main focus of improvement.

We hope you enjoy the blog site and please take the time to leave us a comment especially on the pupils work in the class sites.

Ofsted Success

Well done to all the pupils, parents, governors and staff of Bridge Hall Primary School. The school was inspected in March 2008 and further information and a link to the full report can be found by following the School Office link.

Congratulations to all the Pupils, Parents, Staff and Governors for the excellent value added result in the 2007 Year 6 SAT tests. The results show that yet again Bridge Hall has improved by increasing the average level of progress a pupil makes whilst at the school.

We don’t stop here though. The Staff and Governors are always looking for ways to further improve the provision and we welcome your views and comments. Thank you to so many of the parents who completed our Parent Survey in December. The summary will be available soon for all to read on the Blog site.

Finally if you would like to help in school we are always looking for volunteers to help with a range of activities from listening to children read, displays, admin work, support in class and much more. Please speak to your child’s classteacher or Miss Heath.
